Autoimmune Diet: Why Can't I Have That On The Repairvite Diet?

“Why can’t I have XYZ on the diet?” So, we are here to answer that question for you.

WHY CAN’T I HAVE THAT ON THE AUTOIMMUNE DIET?

Tomatoes:   The Acidic content and stomach damage that nightshades cause can contribute to both stomach dysfunction and leaky gut syndrome. Tomatoes are very acidic and as a part of the nightshade family, are to be avoided while Leaky Gut markers are being healed or until the absence of leaky gut is confirmed by lab testing. Corn:  This is a grain and no grains are allowed on the Repairvite diet.  Remember that canola oil, corn starch, and corn syrup are also not allowed, as they are corn based. White potatoes:  The lectin content of potatoes impairs absorption and digestion, and when the intestine / gut is not healthy, they are difficult to digest and can actually prevent the healing process from working properly. Interestingly, sweet potatoes are not part of the potato family but are tubers / root vegetables similar to ginger, rutabaga or turnips and are considered much easier to digest.

Beans (red/black):  The lectin content of beans impairs absorption and digestion, and when the intestine / gut is not healthy, they are difficult to digest and can actually prevent the healing process from working properly. Oranges:  The Acidic content of citrus fruit can contribute to stomach imbalances. Commercial Salad Dressings:  We’ve checked at our local Earth Fare and it appears that there aren’t any commercial salad dressings that don’t contain one of the following: canola oil, vegetable oil, soybean oil, tomato puree, dairy, rice vinegar, or rice starch. Coffee:  There are 4 potential problems with Coffee:

  1. It can be immunologically a food sensitivity and if so, when drinking coffee you will directly be making your immune system worse.
  2. The caffeine in coffee is a TH2 stimulant and if you have an autoimmune dysfunction, your immune system could be made worse by triggering and pushing the Th2 immune pathways.
  3. Coffee reduces the effectiveness of stomach acid, which is needed to support digestion, immune healing / elimination of infections, and absorption of key nutrients including calcium in the body.
  4. Coffee actually suppresses Adrenal function, causing the adrenal gland to get worn out and fatigue, worsening your stress response, sleep regulation and even blood sugar regulation.
